The emotionally charged fourth single the trio’s upcoming new album ‘Great American Painting’ makes quite the impact.
Produced by Joe Chiccaerelli who previously worked with the likes of The Strokes and The Killers, ‘No Blood’ is full of clean, jangly guitar work and powerful lyricism. Fans of The Districts will recognize its classically indie vibe right from the beginning, though its subject matter could be a slightly new direction for the band. Rob Grote describes the album as the band “trying to make something good for the world.” Any fans of the band or even just a causal listener of this new single will quickly be able to hear Grote’s intention in this thought-provoking single.
‘No Blood’ is a beautiful example of lyrical dissonance done perfectly, the overall energy and mood of the song makes you want to nod your head along with Braden Lawrence’s upbeat drum patterns but slightly gritty and pensive lyrics (in particular “Cause there’s no fun left in this town” and the eerie “Better carry a gun…”) catch the listener’s attention. The song takes the listener on a dreamy rollercoaster ride, the tension between the lyrics and the clean, melodic pattern of the riff come together to create a truly visceral forth single. It’s simply post-punk/indie done right!
