Let us introduce you to Mancunion rising star Alex Spencer - who has just released his new single 'Wake Me Up' along with the announcement of a UK tour.
Alex’s first release of 2025, ‘Wake Me Up’ is an honest and optimistic track which explores the highs and lows of growing up. With catchy guitar riffs, relatable lyrics and high energy, Alex is quickly making a name for himself in UK music. Whilst Alex’s song writing capability proves far beyond his 17 years, ‘Wake Me Up’ perfectly captures the unbridled energy of youth.
Alex Spencer will also head out on his first UK headline tour in April 2025, kicking off with a show at The Louisiana in Bristol on the 7th and playing London’s Camden Assembly on the 10th.
He took a moment to talk to us about his music.
Hey there Alex - how are you? So your track ‘Wake Me Up’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
Hi guys — I’m great! Just back home from a writing session so I’m buzzing!
‘Wake Me Up’ explores the concept of contrasting dreams and reality. I talk about a dream that’s just way to good to be true; picture it… it’s your perfect dream, you have everything you ever wanted… The person it’s based around doesn’t know the difference between dreams and reality, and wants to be heavily awoken from it even though it’s perfect.
Where are you from and what are your favourite things to do there?
Well, I’m from Manchester, Droylsden. I grew up here and have lived here my whole life, but I was actually born in Barcelona (where my mum’s from). There’s not much to do in Droylsden, as kids we’d spend our days eating chippy and kicking footballs in Medlock Park, but I do love Manchester for days out and going to the City games most weekends.
What are the key influences when it comes to your music?
Growing up my parents were big music lovers, my dad would play a lot of 90’s indie rock music; Oasis, Stone Roses, The La’s… We’d also play a lot of Arcade Fire.
When we travelled round Asia we met musicians from all around the world and it opened me up to a lot of new music. I listened to a lot of jazz out there, The Beatles, Manu Chao; a bit of everything!
As I’ve grown up I look up to artists like Sam fender, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Arctic Monkeys and rappers like Bakar, Dave and Mac Miller.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
I’d describe my sound as good energy with huge catchy choruses! The soundtrack of youth.
Now the track is out there - what next for you?
My goal for this year is to keep doing what I’m doing, grow my audience and get my music heard. I’ve got so much new music already on the way and soon we’ll be busy rehearsing for my UK tour in April. Plus so many more gigs and festivals to come!
The dream is to chart with my music going forward, getting my debut album at number one, touring the world, selling out shows and eventually headlining the big one, GLASTONBURY. I want to inspire the world and youth with my music.
