No, the cast of the 1989 cult classic haven’t formed a supergroup spearheaded by Ethan Hawke and backed by Josh Charles in homage to the late Robin Williams, but, in fact, four American rockers have banded together citing no influence from cinema, or even the novel.
Sucking the marrow out of life with their latest track “My Condition”, the Los-Angeles-based quartet utilise punk-infused vocals and catchy lyrics to create an all-consuming rock cut that demands to be heard.
Touching on conspiracy theories (“This simulation we're living in”) and the accomplishments of greats (“Jack Kennedy holding back cold wars // Napoleon and everything he fought for”), the band talk on how nothing really matters (“No one will care or remember my name”), atop juxtaposing-ly upbeat instrumentation.
Released as the fifth and final teaser for their upcoming sophomore record, “FISSION”, out in just under a week’s time (26th January), “My Condition” serves as an apt anticipation-builder that boasts a carefree attitude and relentless pop-punk energy.
Complete with a music video directed by The Moldy Peaches' Steven Mertens (who has also served as a videographer for the likes of Lil Peep and Duran Duran), “My Condition”, as a whole, serves not only as a sonic feat, but is a clever artistic endeavour that epitomises the band’s career progession.
