Inhaler - 'A Question Of You'
Shaking away the accusatory nepo-baby shackles, Irish quartet Inhaler have spent the last half decade proving that they’re more than the sum of their lineage. Their 2022 break-out record, “It Won’t Always Be Like This” offered the first taste of the infectious cuts that the band have made their staple – with the sophomore “Cuts & Bruises” quickly following suit.
Taking inspiration from the likes of The Stone Roses, Talking Heads and Echo and the Bunnymen, Inhaler have carved themselves their own unique space in the alternative soundscape – championing unapologetic indie rock, thrilling pop intonations and zealous performances.
Their most recent release, “A Question Of You” offers itself as the third teaser of their upcoming record, “Open Wide”, due out in just over a weeks’ time. Musically, funky bass lines and melodic vocals dominate in a ballad of grandeur and romantic gestures (“When we were younger / I could split the sea / You could move the earth just for me”).
Speaking on the track, frontman Elijah Hewson notes; ““This is love song territory for me, about how in order to be honest with someone else you’ve got to be honest with yourself, like, ‘I’ve gotta sort my own shit out so I can be around other people’. It’s also a soulmates thing. The choir really changed everything on this one.”
The track’s accompanying visuals detail a high-octane jewelry heist that’s abruptly interrupted by a surprise and uncannily Hollywood twist. Channeling Danny Boyle in its directorial style, and Elijah’s efficacy for acting perhaps pointing towards a possible career change in future. We see the protagonist stumped by hefty price increases at a pawn shop, seemingly unaware of how the ‘business is run’, before an impromptu and arguably messy robbery ensues - complete with spanner in hand and Peep-show style POV shots.
Together, both the music video and track are an exciting offering from Inhaler and perhaps the band should try their hand in the dramatic arts.
