headboy - 'Cement'
London trio headboy set up the release of their debut EP ‘Was It What You Thought’ with the brilliant new single ‘Cement’.
The group seem to be growing in popularity at an impressive rate, and this shows no signs of changing as the band put out yet another brilliant track.
The latest release feels full of hope and general feel-good energy. If one were to liken it, the track could be compared to other up and coming acts such as KAWALA. This being said, headboy really do have their own sound, a purity if you will.
‘Cement’ is an undeniable track in that it will take over listeners with its soft intro and jangly breakdowns.
Lyrically, the track excels. The group have stated on the track that ‘Cement is about taking stock and refuge in the comfort of your friends and the people around you; and the rediscovery of friendship.’ This message can most certainly be felt throughout the entirety of the latest release. It has the feel of a song that will get friends lashing their arms around each other in joyous fashion.
Band member Mars West added that ‘Sometimes you have to absorb yourself in whatever chapter of life you are in, instead of spending all your time wishing for the next one. Cement is very much about this’. This sincerity behind the group’s tracks is one of the many reasons that they could go to the very top. Not only is it lyrically so sincere, ‘Cement’ also feels true in its musical arrangement. It builds up brilliantly and then almost leaves listeners losing themselves in its jangly-pop breakdowns.
With the release of the trio’s debut EP fast approaching (due for release in June), headboy are set to take the musical world by storm!
