English Teacher - 'Mental Maths'

Leeds quartet English Teacher stun with sensitively produced new single ‘Mental Maths’.

Leeds post-punk quartet English Teacher have unveiled their latest sonic feat in the dazzling ‘Mental Maths’ as a snippet teaser of their upcoming debut EP, ‘Polyawkward’. Focussing on themes of feeling socially overwhelmed, even in seemingly familiar settings, the buzzy cut tackles difficult subjects with the utmost sensitivity.

Discussing the narrative behind the track, frontwoman Lily Fontaine divulged, “’Mental Maths’ is an expression of social anxiety and sensory overload through the catastrophising of a trip to the supermarket.”

Following on from their previous release ‘A55’, ‘Mental Maths’ features staple half-spoken-half-sung lyrics backed by thrumming instrumentation that make for an utterly infectious listen. Monotonous but equally brimming with sonic depth, the cut overflows with and exhilarating energy that ups the ante for their debut EP.

‘Polyawkward’ is set for release April 22nd.
