Banji - 'Chatterbox'
One of the Netherlands’ promises has just released their new single ‘Chatterbox’ via [PIAS] Recordings. Banji’s latest is a fun, dangling and slightly ironic new track drenched in the signature Banji-sauce!
‘Chatterbox’ is short, eclectic and spicy and anything but conventional. It is what we’re used to from Banji, but more edgy. The band is the embodiment of the modern hipster, without that being a negative thing, on the contrary, we appreciate a band that does exactly as they please without trying to fit into a box. Banji bring with them an urgency, something gritty and snappy, and most of all very different. Vocalist Morris Brandt is known to have been in several bands before, but Banji seems to be the line-up of the future.
With their latest, the band confirms their stance on self-centred narcissists, Morris elaborates: “‘Chatterbox’ felt like a departure from the rest of the material we were working on at the time. The energy was definitely different, but also felt familiar in a way. The song is about certain people who are kind of offensively self-assertive and conceited. There are snippets of conversation happening in the song that are more or less inspired by real ones I’ve had. ‘Chatterbox’ is special to me because it took me a long time to realise that it’s best to acknowledge these types of patterns when they’re happening.”
So in a way, we have the narcissists Morris has had conversations with in the past, to thank for ‘Chatterbox’. Its sound translates the frustration of speaking to such individuals, and helps us take a step back and let them talk while in our heads, we have already moved on…
