CloseUp // Track Of The Month #001 // King No-One - 'Oxygen'
Our debut WTHB CloseUp ‘Track of the Month’ comes in the shape of the movie score reminiscent ‘Oxygen’, from glamorous alt-pop trio King No-One.
The outfit are known internationally for their dynamic, and historically guitar driven brand of indie. Making a name for themselves originally for busking across the UK, they’ve gone on to play slots at Reading & Leeds, TRNSMT & sold thousands of tickets on numerous headline tours. However, new cut ‘Oxygen’ demonstrates a different side to King No-One, darker and centering around the ongoing climate crisis, it almost feels suited to a film soundtrack, as it builds and erupts into a chilling war cry. The band spread their message across Europe with upcoming dates in Paris (4th) & Amsterdam (9th) this December, a debut foray into EU headline touring. On ‘Oxygen’, frontman Zach Lount says of ‘Oxygen’:
“Oxygen is a heartfelt cry of absolute desperation for this beautiful world that we all live on. Subjugated to relentless forest fires, excessive flooding, unimaginable heat waves, oil spills and entire ecosystems on their knees.
All whilst the apex of our society are for the most part, feckless world leaders with too much money in their back pockets to tackle an ever growing issue that is far beyond comprehension. Maybe it’s not too hard to imagine that a group of people with the responsibility of looking after and stabilising our society, might actually be pulling the wool over their eyes whilst we all burn to hell off the back of decades of selfish capitalistic decisions plunging us into a living hell.
But it’s fine, we all die eventually. Anyway, it isn’t too late. Let us breathe, let us see the beauty in the world flourish, let us remember that the earth is shared and we’re just passengers along for the ride. “
