Dolores Forever - 'Concrete
Following a slew of major UK summer festivals under their belt, Dolores Forever are riding a wave of momentum with their emphatic single ‘Concrete’ released on 28th August.
The track serves as a standout, confident statement of artistic intent by a band bursting with bold ambition. As the band express themselves: “You can’t pick your favourite child, but this is definitely one of ours. It’s a defiant rager of a bop about taking rightful credit for the things we create”. This sentiment seems fitting in a ruthless, competitive world where the idea of acknowledgment for your success is as precious now as it ever has been. The duo who met on the rooftop at a house party have an ear for breezy, upbeat pop, they are a band who mean business whilst also making festival dance bangers such as ‘Concrete’.
Sharing an uncanny ability to write a sure-fire bops with indie contemporaries Wet Leg, Hannah from Dolores Forever summarises the duo’s ethos quite eloquently: “friendship really is the band’s life blood. Women connect with each other on this amazing level, even in adulthood, and we wanted to make adult female friendship a little more visible. And to say, actually, we should value friendships just as highly as romantic relationships”.
Self- described on their Instagram bio as being “Like Fleetwood Mac without the husbands”, the emotional depth of the likes of Stevie Nicks is channelled through the pained poetry of ‘Concrete’ lyrics such as ‘You want the ecstasy/ But you will never know the agony/ that has came from my arteries’. Having co -written the winning 2013 Eurovision entry for Denmark, one half of the duo Hanna - who is from Copenhagen – truly understands the art of pop songwriting: a well-honed craft that will surely help propel Dolores Forever to the top of their game in their undoubtedly glorious future.
