Ruti - 'Don’t Make a Sound'

Ruti returns with her striking single ‘Don’t Make A Sound’ – another offering from her upcoming EP ‘Lungs’.

Opening with serene vocals and a lullaby-esque instrumental, Ruti expertly draws her audience in with her siren call. As she places her emotions on a plate before us, so tangible they could be our own, Ruti draws us into her emotionally fuelled world: “I placed all my faith in us, sweet ignorance”. 

Ruti’s vocal range is something to behold: high notes that swoop down and swell into full bodied harmonies. As her lyrics swirl through the emotions and thoughts surrounding an impending breakup, her powerhouse vocals push the intensity of her feelings to new heights. 

While Ruti is no stranger to a cinematic climax to her songs, in ‘Don’t Make A Sound’ Ruti twists towards rich electronic textures. The departure from her usual R&B, jazz and pop influences is entirely welcome, and allows her breadth as an artist to shine through. 

While previous releases have seen Ruti use jazz influences such as brass band instrumentals to hit her mark, she takes a different approach in ‘Don’t Make A Sound’. Here the production creates soundscapes that lap around Ruti’s voice like water. Layers of sound bubble up to immerse her vocals in a pool of electronic effects for the gorgeously reverberating chorus. Just as a wave of sound arrives, the intensity of the production relinquishes again, allowing Ruti’s vocal to stand alone as she pushes her voice to soaring heights.
