Yard Act - 'Peanuts'
Leeds’ next hottest band, Yard Act, are putting up a mirror to the divisions that exist within our society through a lethal peanut allergy with their new single ‘Peanuts’.
This outfit are still relatively in their infancy, having all met back in 2019 at their spiritual home the Brudenell Social Club, but since have been inseparable and have shown a lot of progress in that time with praise coming from all sides on previous singles ‘The Trapper’s Pelts’ and ‘Fixer Upper’. Their new single sees them add to their roster, with new guitarist Sam Shipstone joining the fold and instantly making an impact as he adds a more progressive slant to the band with a focus more towards the melodic side of proceedings.
Yard Act have quickly become recognised for their talents with lyrics and also creating worlds within their songs as well as the outlandish characters that live within them. That’s certainly not missing on ‘Peanuts’, depicting the imaginary murder of a husband by his wife through his deadly peanut allergy. Though led in essence by this murder, ‘Peanuts’ is much more than that as we are beaten over the head steadfast guitar and social observations that really aren’t afraid to go for the jugular. Below the surface, it’s observation and an acceptance that we all don’t “see the world in the same way” and the divisions between us as people are becoming extreme by the day.
Any song that can tackle the societal issues we all face through the form of a deadly peanut, is something that really needs to be lauded and ‘Peanuts’ is yet another example of the ever-increasing power and talent that Yard Act possess.
‘Peanuts’, the new single from Yard Act is available now on all major streaming platforms.
